You bring a lot of good and ...Excellent post Doug! You bring a lot of good and accurate information for us to consume. I do somewhat disagree with your "Old Guard" philosophy. True, there was contention, but a lot of that built up from the split you refer to in the 60's that grew into a nice treasure chest bank account for TRO throughout the late 70's through the early 90's. That's when TARC became competitive again and grew to an active membership around 100.

Now, I remember when this first started being talked about. Those interested requested volunteers who wanted to serve on an exploratory committee. As a past President of TARC and former ARRL OK Section Manager, I volunteered. I had information that would be valuable to the proposition. TARC obtained their 501c3 during my tenure as president. The only problem is that my help was not wanted by those on the committee. It appeared to me that this committee was being built from members who were only in favor of the merger. When TARC obtained the 501c3 status, it was obtained through the use of a lawyer which at the same time resulted in updates to the bylaws of the club in order to comply with the requirements of a 501c3 corporation.

My feelings weren't hurt but when I discovered that this process was going to be one which was probably going to result in an illegal transfer of assets, I gladly stepped back and wanted no other part of the process. I fear this will tear both clubs apart and could be very expensive for one or both clubs in court. So, your reservations about having this looked at by a lawyer are most warranted.

I wish my input would have been welcomed. I have quite a bit of knowledge pertinent to the situation but the fact that my input was clearly unwanted really did point to a one sided conversation focused in favor of the merger. I believe the vote that is scheduled for both clubs is illegal and in conflict with, at least, the bylaws of the TARC.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230193013309204266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451122474603627635.post-23101795027409025412016-01-23T05:40:31.489-06:002016-01-23T05:40:31.489-06:00Doug,
May I say that your Blog thoughts are very ...Doug,

May I say that your Blog thoughts are very well composed as to the proposed merger.

Doug, I am not a member of either organization. I have had an interest in HAM radios since I was a child and now that I am in my late 50's I just might act on it and become involved, thus my stated comments to your Blog.

I have had the honor of holding the position of President for two years in a large club / organization here in T-Town. The field of interest that the club was established around has one solid foundation and yet there exists four other clubs / organizations which share the same foundation and yes one or more of these are splinter groups.

To get directly to the point I would strongly suggest "not" to merge. The merger will give birth to new issues that possibly haven't even been thought of (human emotions are very unpredictable).

Look to history with other groups and their mergers / acquisitions, poll the end results before TRO and TARC continue. I will tell you that my past club / organization tried. It failed and was painful. It caused more harm than good.

Possibly create a "joint" organization subchapter that is supported by both the TRO and TARC. You may find that those interested and involved in the sub-chapter may bring light to new fresh ideas that can be incorporated into either parent organization. The subchapter may allow for those that wish a little more elbow room to express or design outside what they "feel" they can now.

From experience..... the merger does not look favorable.

Blessings

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03863682661505423975noreply@blogger.com
